Brass Puzzles By Rocky HOME PUZZLES I was born here in Pueblo Colorado in 1929. The forth of six children. My dad was born in Italy and my Mom's mom and dad were born in Italy. I Grew up on a farm just out side of Florence CO, which is about 30 miles from here. I graduated from Holy Cross Abby high school in Canon City CO in 1947. I joined the Navy in1948. Went to Machine Repair school in San Diego, then on to Guam for long enough to make you crazy. Part of 1950 and 51 I was at Pearl Harbor. I got out of the Navy in 51. I went to work at the Colorado Fuel & Iron steel mill here in Pueblo as a machinist. in Sept of 52. . I retired in 1995 when I was 65 years old. In 1950 I was in the Navy at Pearl Harbor learning to be a
Machinist. I Machined eight one inch brass blocks and cut slots in them to
make them fit together. I was not trying to make a puzzle. I was just practicing
machine work. The block would not stay
together. It was in the 1980s Some time when I realized that mathematically I
could make the block so that seven pieces would go to the center. That would
allow putting a pin I was getting ready to retire and was looking for a hobby that would use my machining ability. I thought of miniatures, I bought a magazine on doll's and doll furniture. I was going through the magazine when I came across an ad saying Puzzles Wanted. I was sitting at my desk, as a fluke I answered the ad, asking $50.00 for my Puzzle .To my surprise it was Jerry Slocum that bought my first Puzzle. He was very pleased with it and was on his way to London to IPP 10. INTERNATIONAL PUZZLE PARTY Jerry Slocum solved my retirement hobby problem. Copyright 2001 Rocky Chiaro |
